Area Visited: Chisinau. (2007)

Moldova is a country thatís trying to find its identity. Culturally it is like Romania, using the Romanian language as it was once a part of Romania. But after World War II it was absorbed into the Soviet Union with a strong Russian influence. It is one of the poorer countries in Eastern Europe. I did not find that anyone spoke English, although I still found the people to be somewhat friendly. It is a very inexpensive country to visit.

I felt very safe in Chisinau, but great care should be taken when traveling eastward towards Ukraine to avoid Transdniester, an autonomous part of Moldova that is heavily communist and not friendly to tourists.

I recommend visiting Moldova as itís very inexpensive to visit.
