North Korea

Area Visited: Near the border with South Korea (Kaesong). (2008)

North Korea is one of the strangest places Iíve ever visited. It has a strongly guarded, hidden society and a heavily militaristic government. Almost all freedoms that we routinely enjoy do not exist. It is also a very difficult country to visit as opportunities can suddenly change based on the political climate. But this is what makes the country interesting.

Any visit to North Korea must be through an approved company and under the control of North Korean authorities. The photographs you take, where you can walk and what you can see is heavily controlled.

I recommend visiting North Korea because of its strangeness, but only for as short a trip as possible.
